College Admission, Funding & Scholarships
“FREE” or Reduced Tuition Cost for Arizona Universities
Free college tuition is now available to high school graduates across Arizona through a new scholarship initiative. The Arizona Promise Program is a scholarship fund that helps cover tuition costs at Arizona’s three public universities: Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona.
The Arizona Promise Program makes college accessible for students who live in low-income communities. Qualifying students will receive free tuition and fees for up to four years with this new scholarship.
How to qualify for the Arizona Promise Program?
-
Reside in Arizona.
-
Graduate from an Arizona high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
-
Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1 of senior year of high school.
-
Qualify for the maximum federal Pell Grant, which is financial aid based on financial need.
-
Admitted and enrolled as a first-time, full-time, on-campus degree-seeking student at ASU, NAU, or UA, in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. (Some gaps in enrollment, such as military service, may be allowed. Please check with the universities.)
Get started:
-
First, submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is a multi-step process, and we have several guides to help answer any FAFSA questions.
-
Next, apply and get accepted to one of the three Arizona public universities.
-
Once accepted and the school has received a FAFSA Financial Aid Summary confirming the student qualifies for full Pell Grant funding, no further action is needed. The college will award funds to cover costs not covered by the Pell Grant.
The scholarship fund was approved in 2021 by the Arizona Board of Regents, which oversees Arizona’s three public universities. Over $7.5 million worth of funding has been allocated for 2022 alone, with even more money expected in 2023.
